The owners of satellite channel Ben TV have been fined £25,000 over the broadcast of a programme which featured televangelist Peter Popoff offering viewers the chance to order "free miracle spring water". Regulator Ofcom said that Greener Technology Limited did not take steps to provide adequate protection for such viewers and there was a material risk that susceptible members of the audience may have been improperly exploited by the programme. The ministry programme showed German born Popoff speaking about the impact of the so-called miracle water along with testimonies of individuals who'd spoken of its benefit with one implying it would cure cancer. After finding the programme in breach of the Broadcasting Code, it's now imposed the financial penalty along with a requirement that the station does not repeat the programme and it broadcasts a statement of Ofcom's findings.
